Is there a word in our earthly language to describe being in those forests? But I would question that it would be St. Helens ash in the state of Washington that would fall that far South to the Napa Valley... There is Mt. Shasta in Northern California but also I would suggest in southern Oregon was Mt.Mazama that erupted some 6,600 to 7,600 years ago with 43,000X the force of an atomic bomb. It created the most beautiful and spectacular "Crater Lake."

It was Mount Saint Helena, not Mount Saint Helens.

I too was struggling for words to express the feeling of standing in a redwood forest.

Strangely, the feeling came back to me recently when I went on the ET ride in Universal Studios theme park, Orlando. This is set indoors, but it simulates the giant trees well.

I never knew there was a Mt.St.Helena.. I learn something new every day here.. But "our" Mt.St.Helens is about twice as tall.. I call it "our" as even tho we are south of it in Oregon(and have had its' ash fall on us) we are closer to it than if we were in Seattle.. and can see it from here.. and when the children were young we went camping there every summer..Spirit Lake was beautiful with a camp ground and boating. But the trees were all blown down and burned in the eruption in 1980. Thanks, Gnomon, for putting me on the right mountain path.. . .. ... ........ ....... .... ... ... . .. ...
