I have been reading around the subject of musical systems that differ from that of the standard western twelve tone equal temperament, mostly in newsgroups/forums/websites, and have noticed that several other systems exist. I have not had the opportunity yet to experiment practically with these systems and therefore cannot formulate an opinion reguarding how useful, or not, they are for musical composition.
It makes quite interesting reading though. One idea is that of Lucytuning see http://www.harmonics.com/lucy/ for further details.
