Boulder was cool when i visited, I remember liking the weather place... err NASCAR or something like national atmospheric sciences centre err research. But maybe this is one of the usual occurances of my family going to strange places on holiday.

NASCAR?
No, there is not that must racing in Boulder.
NCAR, National Center for Atmospheric Research. Yes that is situated on a hill against the foothils, overlooking the Boulder valley. Quite a great view and a good place for stunt kite flying, as least so I've heard.
There are a number of other National Labs in the Denver/Boulder area, including the lab which houses the Atomic Clock.
