But just a quick correction: the Congress Avenue Bridge is actually the largest URBAN bat population. There is an even larger population of Mexican free-tails near Retama Park, outside San Antonio.

And it's not unusual to see a downed bat around the bridge. Tiny little fellows, I couldn't believe it.

Best movie experience in Austin was watching "Fantasia" in Hogg Auditorium on the UT campus. It's not unusual for bats to get into the university buildings (lots of places for them around campus, but no large colonies). During the last segment, Bald Mountain, there were a few bats flying around the theater. It was fantastic!

Then there was the night a stray bat started dive-bombing the basketball court during a Longhorn game.

Hi Constancesmiley - smiley

I'm glad you liked the entry! I was just a visitor to Austin, but I was impressed enough to write an entry about the bats.

Sorry about the error - I don't have editing rights to the entry, but if you drop a line to <./>Feedback-Editorial</.> and let them know of the error, the Editors will be happy to fix it.

Once again, thanks for the feedback.
