A Conversation for Ballistic Missile Submarines

Book: "Big Red"

Post 1

Steve K.

I've read a pretty good book titled "Big Red: The Three-Month Voyage of a Trident Nuclear Submarine". "Big Red" is the USS Nebraska, named for a rural state that the book says has only one other claim to fame, a college football team that is a perennial winner. The author is a veteran Time magazine writer, so the writing is pretty good, he basically lets the crew tell their story. One item I recall is that when one of the subs sets sail, it is the ninth (?) most powerful nuclear force on the planet. 4.5 stars at Amazon, more here:

Submariners + submarines keep the peace in this world of war. submariners share a kindred spirit + if one Navy in in trouble with damaged equipment ( usually the Russians), we will go and help them. I say Submariners are the elite of any Navy's pesonnel.

Yeah.
