A Conversation for Snowboarding Basics
Splitboards
mallokyte Started conversation Nov 5, 2004
There is now a new type of snowboard available to those who enjoy snowboarding and skiing alike. It is called the "splitboard" and can be split down its long axis into skis, and the latched back together to re-create the origingal snowboard form. Quite possibly the most useful application of this board is in backcountry snowboarding, where as one can use the ski function to ascend the hills where there are no lifts, and the snowboard function to descend.
On a personal note, I find these boards quite useless, and I see them as an attempt to mix oil with water (I am of the opinion that skiing and snowboarding cannot be mixed), but in the interests of being complete, I thought it necessary to mention this type of board.
