I saw this today and thought that someone has read the article on my personal space!

I wrote this article as part of my post-grad course of Shiatsu in maternity care. I'm a belly dancer (and a redhead strangely enough...) and teach belly dancing for antenatal and postnatal women, and someone asked me to post it on this site so that they could read it. Maybe it's the hormones of being 34 weeks pregnant, but I feel a bit put out that my article wasn't at least linked to.

I also have to say that some links to the sources of your information would have been courteous, like mentioning the work of Tina Hobin and Rosina-Fawzia Al Rawi for example.

Gnomon - time to move on

Hi Leopardskinfynn!

It is not possible to link to your entry from this one, because of the rule that says Edited Entries can only link to other Edited Entries, not to ones which have not yet been edited. Is part of this one taken directly from yours? In that case, you should probably be given a credit on the Edited Entry.

Hi Gnomon

Fair enough about not being able to link to my article as it hasn't been edited (although ZSF did say she wanted to some months ago), I just find it a bit odd that this entry seems to be saying much the same thing as mine, and also because I recognise some of the material from the books and websites that I read for my research and I thought that they should get a mention. smiley - erm

We don't have a rule about citing references here on h2g2. Some people do and others don't.

Hi Leopardskinfynn!

I've just browsed back here after not visiting for a while and noticed your comments from September. Just wanted to say that I genuinely hadn't seen your article on Birth Dance, which I have just read with great interest.

I wish I could say I set out with such high academic standards! But I basically wrote this article pretty much straight off the top of my head (without specifically referring to any sources) after I did a search for "belly dance" on H2G2 and found only one response (A508484) that described belly dance as an exotic dance and mentioned male audience members stuffing money down the front of their costume. I just wanted to get something a bit more accurate on here fast.

I did intend to go back through and tweak it a bit, list some useful sources and so on, but I went on hols shortly after and when I came back I found that it was an Edited Entry already.

I've read so many books and articles and picked up so many bits and pieces on this subject over the years that I'm not sure I could list every single source. But I would recommend that interested readers refer to Wendy Bonaventura's "Serpent of the Nile" book and Shira's very comprehensive and well-researched website at www.shira.net.

Cheers,
