Penalties - the attacker's chosen direction in which he is going to send the ball is given away by the way his standing foot is pointing. This gives you about 2 milliseconds to dive the right way smiley - winkeye

Indeed - the state of David James' nose when he left the field yesterday after a star performance for Aston Villa will testify to that.

my 9 year old is goalkeeper and here's what he says: on penalty shots the feet and the eyes really don't mean anything except, just when the kicker takes his first step, his eye will dart for a split second to a spot, and THAT'S where he's going to kick the ball.

We shal possibly see if that applies to 32+ year old over the hill players this evening - I'm playing in a knock out competition so penalties (and sore knees) are likely.

When im trying to save a penalty i find it best to look at the strikers hips just as he is about to strike the ball.............that gives you an incite into where the player will shoot.......when i kept for my team i worked out my penalty save percentage and it worked out that using this method, i saved 74% of the penalties shot at me!!

Hope this helps.

My theory on penaltys is to look which way the panalty taker is looking and dive the other way. It worked at school anyway
