GReat way to tour a city is by touring locations used in films set in them. Wish there was more like this on the guide. Good work.

You're welcome I'm a bit of a film buff myself so like to find these things.

It does add a nice unconventional feel to the Guide. My neighborhood gets used lots for those "gritty street scenes" that you see so often in NYC movies; I should perhaps mention them in forthcoming guide entries. I loved the movie and I really like your entry.

I love those old films from 30s and 40s. For me, they had a special flair, maybe because they were black&white, and that created a very special light.

You know what's interesting in regard to New York City and movies? Many scenes of more recent movies that supposedly take place in the Big Apple were in fact filmed in Vancouver! Funny, isn't it.... I guess it's like this rain thing. The real thing just doesn't look real on film.... Canada of all places (oops... Sorry!).....

I totally agree with you! Think they also spent a little more time thinking about what they were doing. I don't mean to say that today's totally different (don't think so at all), but some of the s*#$ they make today.... (Hello there Coyote Ugly! Hello Gone in 60 Seconds!)

Yes, of course, I did - it's a must for every cineast, no?
But, to be honest, I always prefered 'The Maltese Falcon', a classic 40s (released 1941) crime movie.

Yes, I love that one, too!!
And did you know that The Big Sleep doesn't make any sense plot-wise whatsoever??
I forgot who said it, I think it was Howard Hawks, who said that before the movie was made, he read through the script, picked up the phone, called Raymond Chandler, and said: "Howard Hawks here. I have a problem. This guy who's killed in the beginning... Who did it?" - Silence. - "Well?" - "I think it was dontremeberwhathesaidnow." - "Couldn't be. He was at the beach at the time." - "Oh. Well, guess I just don't know, then. Good-bye."
Orson Welles too said, laughing his head off: "I NEVER understood the cult around The Big Sleep. It just doesn't make any sense at all!!"

I heard that the reason lots of movies are filmed in Vancouver (or Toronto) is that the Canadian dollar makes filming there more affordable.
