i am curious to know when the americans started to drive on the right. england, along with europe, inherited the roman custom of travelling on the left, and it was napoleon who changed it to the right. england stayed on the right because it was never taken by napoleon and furthermore had no international roads to connect with, being an island. (yes i know, scotland and wales and maybe even cornwall, but let's not go there.) i am open to correction on this.

did the american colonies start on the left and at some point move to the right? if so, when, and why? it must have been bedlam.
