Bulgaria

Bulgaria had been founded by the Proto-Bulgarians (a horseback riding tribe coming form the Russian steppes) in 681 A.D. and since then has glorious and not so glorious histroic moments.
Its capital is Sofia, the official langage is Bulgarian (a Salvic language, simiular to Serbian and Russian), but most people, especially the younger, speak English. The population is some 8 million people, most of them obsessed with the idea of immigrating to someplace else. Anyway... ;-)
The nature of Bulgaria is extremely beautiful -- the beaches on the Black Sea are long, wide, with golden sand. There are many resorts along the coast, the most famous of which are Albena, Zlatni Pyasutzi (Golden Sands), and Sluntchev Bryag (Sunny Beach)
The mountains (about 60 percent of the territory is mountainous) vary from mild hills to high jagged ridges -- the highest mountain peak is Mussala, in the Rila mountain -- 2925 meters. There are famous ski resorts such as Borovets, Pamporovo, and Bansko. In the summer the long hiking trails lead the tourists to high-mountain lakes and gorgeous views.
Bulgarian national cuisine is rich and tasty, the wines and the local drink 'rakia' (grape brandy) are world-famous. The best white wine, in my opinion, is 'Traminer Han Krum' and really worths trying it.
The Bulgarians are hospitable and friendly people and enjoy throwing parties, drinking and having fun, just like anybody else.
The country is relatively safe, though somewhat primitive in the villages. The big cities are modern and with well-developed infrastructure.
