TB didn't of course direct 'The Nightmare Before Christmas'. That honour belongs to Henry Selznick, who also directed James and the Giant Peach.
Burton produced the film, and obviously had a big hand in conception and design.

The director of TNBC was actually Henry Selick.
You may have confused his surname with that of David O. Selznick, who was a successful Hollywood producer of the 1930s and 1940s.
