A Conversation for Loudon Wainwright III

I saw Loudon Wainwright perform everal years ago at the Sydney Opera House - a friend of mine was in the support act. The only thing I new about LW at the time was his "Dead Skunk" song, so I was very pleasantly surprised by the range of his material. At one point he sang a very beautiful, sensitive song to his young son (I did say that it was several years ago ) and then followed it up with a song about dog turds!! I instantly became a fan.
There was a respected ABC radio journalist in Sydney some years ago who delighted in LW's song "I Wish I Was A Lesbian"!! It really rocked the establishment the first time he played it but the listeners loved it so much that they kept requesting it. The journalist (Andrew Olle) died suddenly of a brain tumour, much to everyone's shock but in a tribute to him a research scholarship was established in his name and every year now he is remembered with much love and his favourite song is played - an interesting legacy.
Andrew Olle interviewed Loudon Wainwright on his show a couple of times and each time it was an absolute joy - they both had a lot in common, especially a warped and quirky sense of humour.
Thank you for reminding me, not only of Loudon Wainwright III but also of some wonderful moments.

I know all of his work Mina Haven't had so much fun with anybody's lyrics... And he is a fantastic clown on the stage.
For those of you who haven't heard his live-cd (I think it was released in 1992) I really advise you to listen to his talk before TSMNWA (They spelled my name wrong again)...

"Happy birthday Elvis, you're not really dead
""It's just an lie, something some people said"
"I heard a cassette of you speaking on the telephone"
"From a bunker beneath Graceland the King sits on his throne"
You gotta love the guy...

Feisor,
He does tend to have that effect on people : either you don't care or you are a fan after two songs(two ? Yes I'd say two... )
The sensitive song was probably "A father and a son". The dogturds one was written when he came out of a writers block. He told us that he decided to write a song about the first thing that he saw...

You've GOT to love a man who writes a song about dog turds!!
In a vaguely serendipitous thingy ....
I hadn't thought about LWIII for ages and then yesterday I found this item, and today the Sunday papers had an article about his son - spooky ...

Have you heard "He said, she said" yet?
-She was trying to get him to talk to her
-While they were doing the deed
-He said "Babe, I'm the strong and silent type"
-She said "That's not what I need"
-"Please do not speak softly", she said
-"When you carry in your stick"
-He said "Action can speak louder"
-She said "It don't do the trick"...

You should definitely listen to "Career Moves". Released in 1993. It's a live-cd and it's much better then previous live-cd's.
BTW : If you add the obligatory Double-U's etc to LWIII and add dotcom you will find his new official website. Finally !
