A Conversation for Chess Variants

In the rules to Dice Chess, it says that the aim is to capture the opponent's King, "as usual". I haven't played chess in a while, but I thought the game officially ended the opponent's King was checkmated.

While I'm here, I'd like to call attention to a couple of Chess variant links. One is
[URL removed by moderator], which archives more chess variants than any sane planet could conceivably want or need. If you go, be sure and check out "The Hitchhiker's Guide to Chess." It's the only entry under Chess Variant Oriented Fiction on the Main Index. (There used to be the backstory for a Fantasy Chess Variant called Omega Chess on there too, but they dropped it for some reason.)

The other link is [URL removed by moderator] This is a commercial site for a game engine that can play nearly any boardgame or puzzle you can describe to it in a special programming language. It's not restricted to Chess Variants, but those are the most popular.

This was a great page. This is the second time somebody's beat me to an idea for an article. smiley - smiley

used to play "Tandem" under the name "Exchange" - and I can confirm that it's hugely good fun - though in our game you couldn't place a piece so that it checked your opponent's king either - and you couldn't place a piece that you just got this move.

For added fun, we had it under a five minute clock smiley - smiley
