h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

This is a great entry!!! Especially the part about ignoring your neighbor. A few years ago, when I was getting familiar with the subway system, I was writing a little commentary on how to survive it just for myself, and I was thinking all the same things-- don't make eye contact with other people, read the advertisements and walkmans transport you to a parallel universe. I often spend my time critiquing people's shoes....

that helps until one day when those shoes come up and attack a prime spot of my masculinity...

I might add that it also helps to bring a wedge of some form... a briefcase, a musical instrument, just something you can use to part the crowd in front of you without actually hitting them yourself. Fairly useful in 42nd Street... what sadist designed that station?

the 42nd street station is evil incarniate.... spaceboy swears to me that in 3 years or so it will be bea-u-ti-ful... but I don't know if I'm holding my breath... I always seem to take the path of most resistance when I"m there. You know, "I'll go this way... lalalalalala...." all of the sudden I'm passing the enterance I came out of three times on my way to the 6 train... sigh...

Grand Central? I was referring to Times Square... Grand Central is a piece of CAKE to navigate compared to the governMENTAL IND company that designed such a station...

...unless they want to merge THOSE two stations together... ooh, that's evil incarnate...

for a beautiful station, I prefer Astor Place on the 4-5-6 line, Union Square on the 4-5-6, 168th Street on the 1-9 line... in fact, EVERY station made by the IRT...

have you seen the Lincoln Center station? We studied the artist that did the murals in one of my art-history classes last year. It's beautiful...

My school's near there! I go to that stop every day... You ever hear of Music and Art? the FAME school?

They're taking forever and a day to finish it...

I've never *really* heard of Music and Art (the school, not the entities). I've heard of Fame, seen it when I was much too young to remember, sang the theme song in chorus in 4th grade, etc. I work on 122nd street, so I take the 1/9 every day up and down- town. My stop (125th street), is ugly, but I just stare in awe when we pass by 66th street's stop. I can not wait until I actually move into the city. I fear that this commute is going to kill me young. So, (getting back to topic), what do you do at Music and Art? Music or Art?

well, if you saw FAME, you already know! the school depicted in the movie is my school, except now it's been moved behind lincoln center in this very ugly piece of 70's architecture...

if I saw fame I already know what? Do you dance? I think I remember dancing....
