I think I'm going to bookmark this one. There's something just plain WRONG about neglected dounuts, you know?

I agree with you
perhaps we should get Joanna to open up an outlet here

Thanks for your support - I think the main reason it's been neglected is that it never appeared on the front page, until now. smiley - sadface

Okay, sounds good. Who is Joanna? (I'm very new here.) So, trying to bring these topic back on topic, what is everyone's favorite kind of donut? Mine would be powdered. smiley - smiley

The recipe is simple but I refuse to deep fat fry

Post 10

Any reason, or is it health/fat related?

I spent some time reading fairy stories to a patient in a burns unit.

Yes - I saw that you had said in another forum after posting here. smiley - sadface

It is enough to put you off deep fat frying. I've never deep fat fried either.

Post 13

AEndr, The Mad Hatter

my mother does, but she is very careful
I don't really need to start - I don't like deep fried foods except chips and I can live without them or go to a chippy

On the rare occasions I do have cooked chips, I use oven chips anyway. They don't taste as nice, but are a lot easier to do. Just bung on a tray, wait for a while, and then take them out. A lot less worry than cooking with fat.

Post 15

AEndr, The Mad Hatter

the trouble is, oven chips just aren't the same as mummy's homecooked chips, chippy chips aren't either, but they are closer

Post 16

Very true - they don't taste at all right. But I'm a student - I don't expect food to taste to taste nice, I just hope it'll keep me alive for another day or two...

Post 17

AEndr, The Mad Hatter

well, after a while you will get fed up of yucky cheap tasteless food, I am sure.

Post 18

Bluebottle

True - but I am too lazy & broke to be able to do anything about that.
Life is full of eating tasteless food - c'est la vie. You can either eat tasteless food, or die. So I eat tasteless food.

It's all inevitable.

"too lazy & broke to be able to do anything about that"
is a fallacy
in fact, cooking decent food isn't any more expensive and is often cheaper than the instant stuff
a lot of food will also cook itself quite happily, once you have done the basic prep
unless your laziness is in trying it out?

I don't know - but I try and do a week's shopping for under £1. Bread = 21p. Baked Beans = 9p per tin Spagetti = 28p. It's the milk and the meat which is annoying by being expensive. smiley - sadface I tend to get a bag of sausages or fishfingers every 5 or 6 weeks, so in the end it means that I can have fishfingers, pasta, beans and bread for weeks on end without spending more than £1 a week on average.

Anything that you can suggest that'll feed me for £1 is fine. smiley - smiley
