A Conversation for Neckties

The necktie certainly does seem to be dying out. The move to informality in all places, including the workplace, has put one of the final nails in the coffin.
I think this is to be lamented. Because everything is informal there is less of an occasion when going out - people all seem to waer the same 'casual uniform' no matter the event or time of day.
I still wear a tie because:
1. I like to separate my work activity from my social activity
2. I believe that my clients expect me to look as though I know what I'm talking about - I'm not sure that could be achieved with a pair of jeans and a T-shirt
3. I still like that sense of occasion when I go out for dinner etc. I don't do it every day and I want to emphasis the special nature of what I'm doing.
And yes, I wear a bow-tie. Bow-tie's are at the very edges of existence,; I think neck-tie's are heading in the same direction, unfortunately.
