Hi Fb, I just wanted to say I've never heard of this battle before, but you've educated me! Great entry.

Cor... thanks! I was born in Bromborough and had vaguely heard of it, then somebody reported that the site of the battle had been found on the 17th hole of the golf course, which sparked my interest to find out more. And we all know where that leads you..... to writing a Guide Entry

Is it Brunnanburh or Brunanburh? Regarding the location, I noticed that the enemy fled accross the sea to Ireland which would seem to put it on the west coast. Also I noticed that the battle took place by Ding's Mere. Anyone any idea about that location?

Well, I think the spelling is up for grabs to be honest - they didn't write much down in those days
Yup - it's on the west coast of England - on the Wirral.
There's a Mere just near the golfcourse - now called Raby Mere

Pure speculation. Ing means family in Anglo Saxon...I think. Could Ding mean the family of D which is now the Dee?
