So how long do the full moon and new moon last? Presumably hthey are only for an instant (if you measure accurately enough), but how long are they generally taken to be?

Generally, I think they're considered full or new for the entire day in which the instant of it occurring occurs.
Did that make any sense?

The New Moon should last about 3 days.
I know of no documented name, in the English language, for the 'New Moon', which is not 'new' or 'old' - it is invisible, ie. in darkness.
