The vortex field generated by one of those things is negligible. With two, the vortex fields interfere and produce a stirring action comparable to that of a real spoon.

Thankfully, plastic stirrers, however cumbersome, can be and often are, these days, made with plastic formulations that sublimate away into the air in six months to a year.
