I have made all of these, but your technique is dumb. It is better to make everything out of X by Y rectangles.
1. Stretch 2*X
2. Fold over
3. Stretch X more
4. Fold corner 2 (clockwise, 1=top-left) to corner 4
you should have:

5. Repeat 3 and 4

6. Repeat 3-5 until dims. = X by Y
For shoes: X = dist. around foot; Y = dist. from top of heel to bottom of toes.
