King Alfred

King Alfred Way is, in fact, named after the King Alfred daffodil which was bred in Newton Pop (as locals often call the place) in Victorian times. The variety, of which the village is proud enough to display pictures on its road signs, is notable mainly for having a trumpet the same colour as the rest of the flower.

So there you are, Newton Poppleford's greatest claim to fame is the creation of a slightly more boring variety of daffodil. Nice place though.

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

Gosh. The entire place now sounds approximately 100% more interesting, haveing read this floral-related clame-to-fame of the place! smiley - biggrin Maybe the entry should be updated to reflect this, the most exciting and interesting, aspect of the village smiley - zensmiley - rose
