A Conversation for 'WKRP in Cincinnati' - the Television Series

A couple of minor corrections...

Though the music in WKRP in Cincinnati has indeed been altered for broadcasts in recent years (a practice that I also loathe, it ruins some otherwise classic moments), this wasn't always the case. When the show was first syndicated after its network run, the original music was intact. An example: in 1985, one local station that aired the series every evening created a simple commercial from a classic moment in the second episode: Johnny Fever cueing up/playing "Old Time Rock and Roll," then collapsing in his chair, looking a bit like death warmed over. This moment, and others from the series, were indeed later ruined by the substitution of generic music...but this has only been in recent years.

It's also mentioned that "The New WKRP in Cincinnati" was syndicated following its two year run. This series was syndicated to local stations from the outset in America, it never aired over a network.

I keep wishing that WKRP would make it to DVD, but only if the episodes are in their original, unaltered form. Happily, I do at least have an unedited cassette of the first two episodes, released years back by MTM Home Video...though it's marred quite a bit from being dubbed in the extended play mode...sigh, but at least when Johnny cues up "Old Time Rock and Roll," we hear "Old Time Rock and Roll."
