A Conversation for Mormonism - A Question and Answer Session

Understanding the Bible

Many people in their criticism of the LDS faith use scriptures from the Bible that they think teach something contrary to what the LDS believe.

There is no question that many read the Bible differently from others. An important question to ask about using the Bible is how should we understand it? However, the more fundamental question to ask before comparing other belief systems with what we feel the Bible teaches is to ask ourselves why we believe the Bible? Why does any person believe the Bible? Why should a person believe the Bible? Why believe the Bible above all the other supposed scriptural records out there in the world? What reason does a person have for believing the Bible?

I would appreciate answers to these questions from any genuine believers in the Bible reading this. I have my own answers for why I believe the Bible - but I am interested to see why others feel they can believe it.

Thanks.
