The 13 Articles of Faith
Mark R. Cordell Posted Dec 13, 2002
"I wonder how your arguments that such a war should never have been fought would go down with the relatives of those who died in, and those who survived, the concentration camps. Should we have left them to their fate? Should the world have stood by and let it happen? Please do not to address you answer to me but to those I have mentioned above.
"
Put it this way, if the German people had adopted pacifism there would never have been a second world war, thus rendering it all irrelevant.

The poster was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (a Mormon).
She referred to non-members as Gentiles because we believe that when we are baptized we become adoptewd into the House of Israel and become a Covenant people ie party to the Abrahamic Covenant.

Hello i'm new to this area and would like to give a shot at this.
I was quoting 1 Corinthians 13:8, "whether there are [gifts of] prophesying, they will be done away with"
I just opened up to that verse and noticed that you left literally all of the verse out. it says "Charity never faileth; but whether there be prophesies, they shall fail; whether there be toungues they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away."
to me this verse is explaining that charity is more important and will stand forever and ever than say prophesies or toungues or even knowledge. example: a thousnand years ago it was common knowledge the world was flat and the best way to write (in at least areas around the mediterranean) papira and scrolls (made of cloth). Two thousand years ago the law of moses was still in play (more knowledge). two thousand years ago latin and the aztec language were common in different regions of the world (toungues). Isaiah and many other prophets prophesied that Jesus would be born...he was born and the prophesy was fulfilled and became an obsolete prophesy.
This is explain that charity is everlasting and perfect. and the things above are temperary and not always correct.
Luv to all,
Tash

Hi's
I'm not exactly sure if an earlier message of mine got on. so i'm going to write it again.
Someon had qouted 1 corinthians 13:8 and the first thing i thought was that can't be right. so i took out my scriptures and read it. Sure enought it wasnt right. the scripture was totally out of context. it was talking about how charity is and eternal and good thing. then it states thart prophesy, knowledge, and tounges (languages) were temperary things. prophesy has to be fullfilled and once it does the prophesy is obsolete. my best example for knowledge...once people "knew" the world was flat... nuf said. and toungues...latin was once a very live language that much of europe used. now only catholic priests use it along with people who study dead languages.

Hello everyone,
Isn't the source of the gospel the God of heaven? When it comes to important questions, we would do well to seek answers from Him. These Articles of Faith represent the announcement of the gospel through a modern prophet. They clearly indicate where true believers in Christ stand on many issues in our own time.
If one wants to look to what God said thousands of years ago (for example in the Old or New Testaments) one is free to do so, but one shouldn't assume that these are the only answers to modern questions. A God that speaks today can give different directions to his saints than has been given in the past. Or he can return to what he has given in the past. Either way, whatever He truly commands (not the false "jihads" of modern times) is always right.
As far as war is concerned, when Jesus returns he will come in victory and those that are wicked shall be burned. The Bible is full of such promises. Sounds like a Man of War to me! Jesus is both lamb and lion. He is both the Prince of Preace and the Lord of Hosts. We need to accept that answers don't come by looking to the records of the past we NEED revelation in the present.
Individual Christians are free to choose to involve themselves in war, while others conscientiously object. One shouldn't assume that the Church either condones or condemns them. "Render unto God that which is God's and unto Ceaser that which is Ceaser's"! is similar to article of faith # 11 and 12. The demands of country and conscience might actually differ from person to person. It is not my place to say. God has a voice and he can use it.
The Articles of Faith represent some of the distinctive doctrines of the Latter-day Saints and were written by a Prophet of God. They are the principles we can all unite behind in our modern times.
