Monarchs were the best

A friend and I went to see most of the home games that first year, we were there to see them beat the NY/NJ Knights and others I lose track of who was who, the first Time Victor E got the ball and ploughed through the opposition. Did he score a T.D that play (a couple later?) I don't even remember if it was the same year.
we saw them lose their only game that season against Barcelona when the league was all wrapped up and they must have taken a holiday before coming home from a long road trip to the states and then to whitewash them in the return match for the World bowl sweet victory.
We bought season tickets the following year and found ourselves on the far side of the stadium with the half time entertainment facing away from us 90% of the time (I really hated missing the Central State Marchng band that year, they were wild) stuck way up in the back so punts and high boimbs were beyond our view, and Stan Gelbaugh our savior of the first year couldn't seem to throw two completions in a row unless the second was to the opposition. So frustrating. the fans started shouting for a new quaterback, ANY Quaterback (Fred something strikes a cord?) we would sit and watch them go behind and then suddenly light at the end of the tunnel a good sequence of plays to get our hopes up only to dash them with an interception and breakaway TD
Sad. we loved to watch them play. When they worked they were the best, Overwhelming, the Line backer (was it Danny Locket) terrifying the oppositions offense with the bomb squad doing the same to the defense and letting Stan drop those little passes over the line to (Doh! what's his name?) or hand it off to the running backs for a good few yards.
I remember seeing one of the cornerbacks in a superbowl a couple of years ago, Dedrick Dodge I think it was?
Now I'm living in Ohio 80 miles from Cincinnati so I can go and watch the Bengals lose any time I like (haven't yet, Too expensive I think) It wouldn't be the same though.

Indeed they were great days. smiley - smiley

However I sat and watched the demise unfortunately as well following the two year hiatus. I booed Brad Johnson in the last game of that first season, he then failed to turn up at the after game party. smiley - sadface

What a missed autograph.

I've Kind of lost interset in "Football" since the second season of the wlaf, I havne't even watched the superbowl since I've been here (we listen to it on the radio in 99 cos the people who were hosting the "superbowl party" (excuse for a visit really) didn't have fox it was their turn to show it. (the family's 25 year old son went ballistic when he found out and ended up storming of to watch it at his brothers house. the rest of us didn't really care played cards chatted, that was the last game I remember seeing or hearing,
Into baseball now, we have a local pro team (minor minor league) five bucks a game, lots of fun and we even win pretty often
there is so much sport available to watch live here, high schools have 1000 people turn out to watch an interschool basketball game and pay for admittance can you imagine that at a school soccer match in the UK. sorry of the subject
do you still watch NFL Europe?

It's on terrestial really early as a highlight show and I don't have sky. I no longer live in London, which no longer has a team and don't really have the time to go over to Edinburgh every other weekend at this time of year. smiley - sadface

I think that the Monarchs still do exist, but only so the Scottish Claymores can beat them - I went up to S***e Fart Lane a few years ago and it was AB-SO-LUTELY DIRE! Only went to cheer every divot and mark in the pitch anyway.

That would have been a few years ago. They got disbanded the season after Alton Byrd took over as General Manager. smiley - sadface

I have to say, I miss the monarchs. As A claymores fan regardless of who won, it was always one of the more fun games, I miss Scotland England rivalry at something scotland can win at. But good show to monarchs fans who still turn up to claymores games. I doubt many of our fans would have done the same had teh situation been different.

Wish that could ahve happened the other way round. I don't travel to other games (Lack of money) and so only catch home games. I'm sure there were people in england who had the same problem. It would have been nice if us non-travelers could ahve seen our teams win.
