A small city in southern Ohio about 50 miles south of Columbus, County seat of Ross County and first capital of Ohio.
It is also home of the independent Frontier League baseball team the Chillicothe Paints.
Filled to overflowing with places to eat from our 5 Macdonald's (that's one for every five thousand people) and two each of Burger King and Wendy's a multitude of pizza places and fast food all-you-can-eat buffets and even some sit down and get served restaurants you can eat out every night of the month and not have to go to the same place twice, I've been here two years and still haven't eaten everywhere.
Having never been to America as a tourist I was unsure what to expect of southern Ohio, Ross county is the foothills of Appalachia, People are independent and often very poor, the contrast of gorgeous homes on two to five acre lots and aging single wide trailers on the roadside is wild.
There is also culture among the megastores and fast food emporia. Every year in an outdoor theatre a play about a famous Shawnee resistance fighter is put on. Tecumseh is a wild ride with horses and pitched battles not for the timid the cannons really do roar; we have seen it twice so far and will almost certainly go again but perhaps not this year. The local amateur Dramatics group as well as some of the local high schools also put on productions at the city's historic Majestic Theater, ranging from murder mysteries to classic musicals, the theater is also the venue for the occasional special events all night monster movie marathons for example
Almost opposite the Paints home field is the Hopewell Culture State Park. A substantial mound city built by the Hopewell Indians somewhere around 1500 years ago, Many of the locals make a little pocket change by looking for Arrowheads and other artifacts in the fields and woods around Chillicothe. Not far down Route 50 is Siep Mound, also built by the Hopewell Indians, it has a picnic area and some tourist information, somewhat further south and you will come to the most famous of the areas earthworks the Serpent Mound.
