From www.reggaereggaereggae.com:
The book was written as a team effort between Michael de Koningh , Laurence Cane-Honeysett (from Trojan Records) and with invaluable input from Mike Atherton (well-respected writer and reviewer) and Marc Griffiths (author of 'Boss Sounds - Classic Skinhead Reggae'). It was written to a very tight deadline, which makes it a remarkable achievement, of which they are all very proud.
The book tells the story of the fomation and growth of Trojan Records, the culture that influenced its success and its eventual decline, and recollections from key characters in its history- artists, producers and employees. It includes a selection of colour photos, including original album sleeves, advertising and record labels. For the reggae enthusiast, it contains a discography of all releases (including blanks) of all the labels owned by Trojan covering 7" singles, 12" singles and LPs. The book contains a preface written by Bob Andy, one of the key contributors to the book.
Here's the official blurb:
Interviewing all who were connected to the label in its golden period, this book tells the story of one of Jamaica's key record labels, now undertaking a revival with a compilation hit album in the UK charts in 2002. Trojan Records was largely responsible for introducing reggae to the mainstream market. In its brief six-year existence, it produced nearly 30 hit singles, created the legendary compilation series "Tighten Up" and launched new acts like Jimmy Cliff, Desmond Dekker, Ken Booth, The Pioneers, Bob and Marcia, Greyhound and Dave and Ansell Collins, all against a background of cut-throat politics, cultural divisions, prejudice and entrepreneurial pressure. "Young, Gifted and Black" is the label's official story, complete with a 12-track CD containing rare archive material from the Trojan vaults and extensive sleeve notes.
