A Conversation for The Death of Abraham Lincoln

What a Mother!

Mr. Christopher, enjoying the Magicians Guild game where he is called Polonius Franc, Elder Healer and local merchant

One of the conspirator's mother was arrested for harboring conspirators and sentenced to death. While awaiting her turn at the gallows, a soldier held a parasol over her head to prevent her from fainting of sunstroke (summer in one fo those huge black dresses - can you imagine it!). Her last words were to the executioner: "Don't let me fall." To preserve her modesty, a rope was tied around her ankles, binding the dress to her so that people wouldn't see her underware (which may have been soiled, as did often happen when a person was hung).

I was told this story by a Lincoln Biographer who was tracing the lives of the conspirators.
