Some yrs ago (in 1981) they made a science fiction version of the lone lawman vs. the criminals. Sean Connery played the lawman vs. drug smugglers in a mining colony on Io.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082869/ Different setting, different reason for the conflict but the same basic plot idea. Both High noon and outland are well made movies.

Outland, that's it. I was going nuts. I had a film crit in college where we discussed this and I could not for the life of me remember the High Noon in space version.

Glad to have been of some help. I know the feeling of trying to remember the name of a movie, etc. and having it be 'on the tip of the tongue' but not being able to quite remember.
