This article was probably correct at the time of publishing, but it is worth pointing out now that this Selfridges is no longer the only one outside London. There's one in Birmingham and even one in Manchester City Centre (Marks & Spencer sold half of their flagship store to Selfridges after realising it was a bad idea to not open a store in the Trafford Centre, and have since done that very thing).
Also, the title of the article is not strictly correct. The Trafford Centre is not in Manchester, but Greater Manchester. Trafford is, in its own right, a borough.

Yeah, once I got the hang of this place I realised it's one of the best places to hang out on the web. As a CS-er, I tend to be sat at my computer a lot of the time, so it's important to have good boredom killers like this!

Hi there,
as the original author, I totally agree with you... the Rainforest Cafe is no longer there, & other stuff has been and gone...

Yeah, the Rainforest Café is a Nando's chicken now
Ah well, at least the city centre's improving by the minute! Can't wait till they've redeveloped the whole of the Arndale "Public Toilet City" Centre

*waves to another CS student*
I see from your personal website you're at manchester university I'm at umist atm, doing a msc in computation...
I had a great time shopping in the town centre at christmas time, I kept finding new shops that I didn't know existed... pretty impressive when you consider how long I've lived here...

Hooray! Manchester CS students galore!
Manchester City Centre is pretty good fun, but it's still missing some of those shops that only people with cars get access to - no hardware shops, and (would you believe it) I spent about an hour looking for a shop that sells plain flour the other day (cos Tesco Metro had sold out) and was unsuccessful!

ah the bliss of living within five mins walk of Tescos at Parrswood...
There used to be hardware shops in lots of parts of manchester (albeit perhaps not the centre) but from what I can tell, they are all slowly but surely being replaced by coffee bars...

Agh, look at the quality of my English! If "I'm from York really" is a parenthesised-clause, then "they" doesn't refer to any subject whatsoever! I'll rephrase...
That sounds familiar - I'm from York really (but at least they still have Barnitt's)

The thought had crossed my mind.
I am a bit of a git when it comes to correcting my friends, my fiancée and my lecturers (mind you I don't ever tell them to their faces) all the time...
If you're offering, I'd be glad to accept, given that I don't have to do reams of work constantly for two reasons:
1. I'm a lazy arse.
2. It's my final year, and I really need to concentrate on exams and project work.
However, if it's 1-2 hours work a week I'll be willing to give it a try (I assume it comes on an opt-out basis)
Thanks!
