A Conversation for Football in Northern Ireland
Football Fans in the northern Republic of Ireland

In the northern part of the Republic of Ireland, most football fans seem to be supporters of Celtic Glasgow (or to be correct, 'Glasgow Celtic', when talking about this club in a pub). On my last visit to Ireland (Donegal) I went to a pub in Letterkenny and got into a conversation with some Glasgow Celtic fans. I was told that in good old times, everybody used to be a fan of the Derry Club (forgot the name), but that switched in the 70's, when Derry ceased playing in the Northern Ireland League and, moreover, many Irish people started to work in Glasgow.
May be that all this is not correct, since I don't speak a single word gaelic and, after a couple of Guinness, the northern irish accent got worse.

Thanks SchrEck Inc. Derry City are mentioned in the article, see alst paragraph. As for the Glascow Celtic thing it's on the old Catholic Protestant lines. East Belfast for example is full of Rangers fans, whereas the West is Celtic. Glascow is as sectarian as Northern Ireland unfortunately.
As for Guinness making the Norn Oirish Accent stronger, slainte.
