Oxygen toxicity

Oxygen does not become toxic at the equivalent of 100%. The partial pressure of oxygen recommended by PADI is 1.4ppO2 or 140% equivalent but a working ppO2 of 1.6 is fine. This means that a diver can go down to 67 metres before oxygen becomes toxic. There is also some evidence to show that divers can gain a certain amount of tolerance to oxygen making it possible to dive to greater depths on air.
