There are *4* universities - Salford is also well within Manchester - it's not within the city centre but it's as close as the Trafford Centre, say, if not closer.
You forget to mention record shops - my recommendations are Earwaves, Pandemonium, Vinyl Revival, Vinyl Exchange and Clampdown.

Haven't really visited Fat City - not my sort of thing... Piccadilly's OK (it stocks my album so it has to be 
) but a little close to the chain stores like HMV for my liking - not much atmosphere...
