A Conversation for Hollywood - The Sign

Reportedly a true story:
"Mary Cecilia Brown came to town on the Malibu bus
She climbed to the top of the Hollywood sign
And with the smallest possible fuss,
She jumped off the letter 'H'
because she could not become a star,
She died in less than a minute and a half,
She looked a bit like Hedy Lamarr."
Lyrics from Dory Previn and featured as the title track of her fourth album and again on 'Mythical Kings and Iguanas'
'I have flown to star stained heights
On bent and borrowed wings
In search of mythical kings, mythical kings
Sure that every thing of worth
Was in the sky and not the earth
And I never learned to make my way
Down, down, down, where the iguanas play.'

Certainly seems like the story of Peggy Entwhistle to me.
Don't often find comments *before* the FP, so thanks.

I think you are right about 'Mary'. I can't find any reference to her via google. Dory Previn would have the answer.
If you haven't heard her music, please do, she is very under exposed and is really excellent.
Key: Complain about this post
