to tick or not to tick

One thing the tick this box... entry fails to mention, and which could well be dangerous to poor consumer, is the superbly crafty inverse tick gambit which commercial web page designers seem to use, whereby two important statements will be interchanged at random throughout such pages:
1/ Tick if you do not wish to receive further information.
2/ Tick if you wish to receive further information.
Similar ploys to catch people out, and generally drive them insane are used by many software designers. Show this message again? Maybe not, but you'll get the next one again everytime, because you took exactly the same measures to prevent getting it over and over that you took for the previous message.
Its a cruel and pointless world out there sometimes.
