It would have been a useful entry but a lot of the info is way out of date. For a start Poole Pottery is no longer on the quay (apart from a shop), having been demolished to make way for posh flats. The aquarium and railway have also closed to make way for, you guessed it, posh flats.

Poole quay has a shiny new marina and a rapidly expanding Sunseeker empire so during the day it is home to a whole flotilla of decadent big flash yachts to gawp at. The Old Harry has been gutted and is now, I think, the Globe(?), in the style of a Starbucks with pints. The Water's Edge on the Quay is also new and has bravely become a gay pub though not doing too well as all of its customers and many more from Bournemouth appear to have moved to the newer Oyster Quay, which is quite big and flash and is a mini club in itself. Latours has re-opened as Chilli or something like that.

Every Tuesday is bike night and there are absolutely hundreds and hundreds of huge bikes lined up on the quay and roaring through the town.

Minimilast tourist attractions?! Miles of gorgeous beaches, Europe's biggest harbour, tons of watersports, gateway to World Hertige Site coastline, Brownsea Island, Purbeck...!

I think this may justify an update/rewrite - anyone agree? anyone out there?

Indeed there are many things that could be said about Poole and there does appear to have been a lot of change over the past 5 years. Poole Arts Centre is now The Lighthouse. Tower Park mentioned in some of the other threads is currently being redeveloped. Perhaps the town's major employer is Barclays, although Amex has a presence too. On the downside the bus station and town appear to be somewhat full of chavvy-type children - but there you go; the inhabitants are what they are.

I don't know if you just volunteer and then write an update or just get on and write it.

Can anyone tell me as Poole is my home town and there is a whole lot more than just the Poole Quay and the little bit of town mentioned here?

Poole is the second largest of the towns in Dorset and is a Unitary Authority as is Bournemouth the neghbouring town which is the largest Dorset town.

Even the update proposal needs updating! Poole Pottery factory just announced it's closing down ... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/dorset/6196911.stm

Very sad.
