I used to wonder why schools invested in BBC and Archimedes, when the rest of the world used PC's. Now I have a PC I know. You switch on an Archimedes and it goes. The disc drives are on the icon bar ready for selection. You file something and you know where to find it. It's like walking into a well-organised house and knowing that the tin-opener is in the kitchen drawer. Excuse the non-technical language, but I don't want to understand my machine I just want to use it. On an Archimedes I learnt how to set up a desk-top boot, adjust the memory allocation, write my own programs,--mainly by trial and error, with some reference to the manual and occasional queries to the computing dept. Whereas on my PC trial and error is likely to land me in a mess that I can't get out of. I hope there is a future for Risc Os machines.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
