I thought they were hemorrhoids

Loved this.smiley - biggrin Thanks for telling the story so simply and engagingly.

But I understood the Philistines to have been afflicted with hemorrhoids.

1 Samuel 5:9:

And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.

It was the 'secret parts' bit that made me think they were hemorrhoids, and not merely tumours.

Have I got it wrong?

Oh, and to be a thorough nerdy pest about it, I've found this link:

Excuse the author's horrible spelling, his transliteration of Greek is atrocious. he's got v's for n's. But it looks like there's a least a bit of a case for the piles.

Which I always figured the Philistines deserved, because they were bullies who stole other people's crops.smiley - winkeye

Gnomon - time to move on

Thanks for that. Many Greeks like to use v's instead of n's because they look more like what they are used to.

Yes, it could have been haemorrhoids.
