Fascinating in many ways, not least because it dredged up a faded school memory.
I remember being told that Hooke realised that springs and such like had an elastic limit by dropping cats out of his laboratory while at Cambridge ... fact or fiction I haven't a scooby ... cats apparently stop returning to their original state if you drop them from too high.
