A Conversation for Surviving on Little Sleep

Days off

This is kinda off topic, but does anyone have any opinions on not having days off for a week or more at a stretch?

I suspect I'm just being wimpy, but I've just got a new, crappy job and between it and school, won't have had a day off for over two weeks. I've been getting almost enough sleep, but I'm starting to feel like I'm going to snap. I'm getting behind in my studies and just generally feeling yucky. smiley - sadface

Any thoughts?

Well I can't do it. When I was that busy I always got sick. I could count on that.

Yeah, it's a tricky mix. I need to make sure I have a day off every week at least, but I also need to pick up more hours. I'm having a really tough time w/ money since going back to school and need to be bringing home more bacon, as it were.

Another thought about this. It is not wimpy. imho, to need a certain amount of rest and time off. Don't let those type-A's tell you otherwise. I hope you're feeling better! smiley - towel

Well, thank you very much. I am feeling better, thanks. I do realize a person needs a certain amount of rest. I also realize I need to suck it up sometimes to bring more money in. Again, a delicate balance.

The main problem is that humans have not adapted these circumstances yet. The light bulb has only been in existance for about a hundred years, thats about three generations. Which is not a whole lot, and only recently, with television, computers, internet, has there been something for people to do at night. Before it was routine, get up, eat, work, eat, work some more, come home, eat some more, then go to bed to wake up for another day. Now you can do whatever at night, and we need a few more generations to become accustom to this life.

Yeah, when "survival of the fittest" causes those of us who need less than 4 hours of sleep a night to die off.

Re: Scarecrowlegion

That's a very good point.

People keep pushing themselves: faster, more, more often (that sounds naughty...) and I just don't want to live like that. I'm more relaxed about life. People feel they need to be busy to justify their existense and I think it's utter crap.

Hehe, yes utter crap. I think the fact that we exist at all should justify our existance.smiley - cheers
