An Opposite World
If roses smelt bad and violets were black
If being polite could get you the sack
If lying was good and truthfulness rude
If clothing was evil and it was lawful to be nude
If puppies weren't cute and cats obeyed every word
If cheating was allowed and complaining went unheard
If nightmares were restful and daydreams were scary
If ogre's were friendly and of Santa you were wary
If chocolate was a poison and fish gut a treat
If we all ate vegetables and veggies ate meat
If cotton wool was like rock and stone was so gentle
If hearts didn't beat and the only pulse was a lentil
If all things were opposite of what we know today
If all things were opposite I wonder what you would say
So maybe we should be thankful for a world that gives us such a lot
And pray it keeps giving from its very bountiful pot
