A Conversation for The New Zealand Pie
Wot? No veggies?

If chicken pies are for "assorted freaks," I hate to think what that makes me....
P.S. I posted this just so I could use the word "wot." I hope I used it properly. Now I just have to find a forum to use "whilst" in and I can consider myself versed in British English

Sorry! I wasn't consciously trying to insult vegetarians, but it was an attempt to emulate a 'red-blooded Kiwi male' and his attitude to such notions. It seems to have worked *too* well.
I have never heard of a veggie pie, but I'm sure such things exist. The only vegetables I've found in any pie I've eaten, other than onion, are the obligatory 6 peas and 6 pieces of diced carrot which can be found in anything from a mince pie to a bacon & egg pie.

Yes! Now that you mention the 6 peas and carrots, I know the exact equivalent to those pies in the US--beef/chicken/turkey pot pies! I had completely blocked them from memory. My mother used to serve them as balanced meals. And she really thought they were. When she started to raise the meat in our backyard for those pies, I became a vegetarian. Nothing like coming home from school to the sight of turkeys hanging upside-down with their throats slits to make one swear off meat. That and the fact that she put the animals' names on the freezer wrapped packages. While it didn't scar me, it did leave a bad taste in my mouth
And no insult taken! I enjoyed the article!

At an excellent bakery shop in Napier, NZ, you can purchese 'home-made' steak and oyster pies. Yum.

Home-made steak and oysters? Is that the same as 'makin' bacon'?
