Due to the way British Telecom came into existance, Hull council decided in their wisdom not to be part of the great merge of the small early telephone companies. This resulted in the Hull having the unique distinction in England of having a local independant telephone service. This has meant the the residents of Hull have had things like flat rate local calls for years, where in the rest of the country you can't get it.
Recently Hull council decided to float part of the business on the stock exchange enabling the continuing of a company that's got nearly a 100 year history.

Funny thing is the shares were doing great (from 225 through about 1700) until the whoe tech share meltdown thing happened a few weeks ago. But hey, around 700 still isn't bad...
