The Reluctant Poet
I had a go at poetry once,
it drive me round the bend.
So twee and silly and useless,
all this rhyming at the end
I tried to write it backwards,
just to annoy those who chose to read
But all I got was lots of praise,
'Your style is very well done indeed!'
So I decided to not rhyme at all,
hoping to cause such a flap.
But all I got was a round of applause,
I'd have rather have got a slap.
So annoying had my plight become,
I hid my pen away.
No more poetry would I write,
but my defiance crumbled at the mention of pay.
It seems people are more than willing,
to give me money for the twiddles I write
And though it is still somewhat annoying,
my bank balance is now looking very bright.
