That Birmingham has more miles of canal than venice?
(Some of which are actually navigable)

Yes, I did know that, living near Brum as I do. Mind you, it's debatable which city's canals are cleaner.

The area around brindley place in the city centre is quite nice. It makes a chnage to drink outside by the canal when the weather's nice. You could almost forget that you're in Birmingham.

Brindley place (esp. Pitstops) is a particular favourite of mine.
In fact, I was thinking of living in that area, before the itchy feet carried me here .
Incidentally - is the Jazz festival on this year? I might try and make ity back for that.

Don't know about the Jazz festival. Brindley Place is one of the places I get taken to when I go and see friends and we go drinking.

At least Birmingham has little chance of being engulfed by the sea. Indeed London will be obliterated off our maps before Birmingham if global warming continues to melt our icecaps.

That the bloke who came up with the fact about Brum having more canals than Venice was just making it up as he went along? It was checked recently (well, within the last 10 years or so) and it turned out that he happened to be right.

As you seem to know the local geography, perhaps you could remind me how the "secret walk" from the gas street basin to Edgbaston cricket ground ends - I can't remember what you do when you get to Brum Uni

Re drinking by the canals,
Found that the Fiddler & Bone and Flapper and Firkin are also very good for this (further along, past the Sea Life Centre) and considerably cheaper.
