Strictly speaking this is the England World Cup squads song for the 1970 ? World Cup campaign, for me a plassy scouser living in New Zealand it will forever describe Liverpool and more specifically Wallasey. Reading the article brought tears to my eyes, thankfully this sort of emotion is permitted in New Zealand but during my formative years was definitely frowned upon, especially if confronted by a gang of "skinheads" from another part of town, or worse still those that ventured over on the Ferry to wreak havoc on unsuspecting plassy scousers. Who can forget the time a "wrecking crew" carved "WEBB" on the doorman's arse at the "Chelsea" (Reach) I know I can't and it does explain why the denimin my Flemings were reinforced.

In short I loved the article and it made me feel homesick and also explained why after all these years I can't stop saying "see ya later" when in fact I really mean see you in some inderterminant time, I guess see ya later is easier to say. I'm off to look at the Wallasey link and I'd love to hear from anyone who used to live at Seacombe Ferry particularly in Victoria House a block of Maisonettes that shaped my life and provided enough material for a sit-com, a book, and many many psychologists visits.

(I work for the council, and after lunchtime chips in the town hall we try to walk them off on the Prom.)

However, if you've not been to Seacombe for a few years, then you could be in for a few surprises. The "Mountwood" has been renamed the "Royal Iris" now that the real "Royal Iris" has been sold off.

And half way between Seacombe and Woodside, there's now a huge new terminal for ships to Belfast and Dublin. It's freight only at the moment, but they'll be taking passengers soon. Click http://www.norsemerchant.com and click on 12 Quays for some out of date info.

I'm pure plastic, having been dragged up in Bromborough, Hoylake and West Kirby. Spent many a fine evening at Anfield though watching the Reds charge through Europe. Pity there's not a few more Brits in the current team.
