A Conversation for Sony's PlayStation 2 - the Gaming Console
Where is this PS2 then?

The console that we have heard so much about has yet to be seen. Instead we have this black box thing that calls itself a PS2.
Same old controller as the the PS1 but black and no sign of these analogue buttons. So what happened? I got one as a Christmas present but I wouldn't have got one myself. If it had these fantastic features then it might have been worth it. Instead, it has been consigned to the bin and my beloved PC reigns supreme. Any comments, anyone who has got a PS2 with the above extras, please inform me of where you got it.
Thanks
A lover of Hideo Kojima games (especially MGS2)

I'm a bit confuzzled... The black pad looks the same, but the sticks AND now the buttons are analogue, meaning that if you are playing a football game, the harder you press it, the harder the kick. Not all games use this facility, and this is down to the programmer not doing his thing. In MGS2 it is used, especially for shooting quickly and sneaking about. Hold a stick you move slowly and quietly, slam it to one side and you run faster.
Yeah, a modern PC is way better for games than any console, but a PS2 costs a heck of a lot less. Where can you get PC that will play PS2 standard games for the same price?

My controller says it has analogue buttons but it doesn't and where I live you can get a certain piece of anonymous software that makes PS1 and PS2 games work on the PC. Although I haven't got it (Probably won't) I've heard it works. I agree with you on the point that the programmer doesn't always do what they say they do but I haven't found a game that does work with analogue buttons. Maybe its just my controller.... I'm going to borrow my mates and see if that works.

Not all games use it. Gran Tourismo 3 does. Squeeze the button harder and you accelerate or brake faster.
As for emulators to enable you to play PS1 and PS2 games, you need a specific spec machine or it won't work. And some PS2 games come on a DVD so you'll need a DVD player to work it.

I haven't played a game yet that it works on so perhaps I should try GT3.
