No-one must have a doorbell in Ramsey Street. Either that or they just don't work. It'd do my head in to have people just waltzing into my house.

Waltzing into people's houses was traditional in Ireland in the 19th Century.

Didn't know that. Though it might explain a lot.
I work in a supported housing place and the office is in a bungalow where three people live. So many people just waltz in with no apparent regard to the fact that they've just walked into someone's house unannounced. Always cracked me up. Always found it a bit rude.
