The American Gnat occupies an area that is not even half of The South -- barely even the bottom half of it. It might be good to reference ``The Gnat Line,'' as it describes it.
Incidentally, I wrote the section under American Gnat (which was originally part of ``The Gnat Line'' article).

Sorry about the missing credit. There seems to have been a bit of a mix up in that department. If you'd care to post a more accurately positioned "Gnat line", I'll see what can be done to set things to rights.
